Arizona Council on Indian Health Care

The Advisory Council on Indian Health Care consists of 23 members who serve staggered two year terms. Twenty (20) members are appointed by the governor of the State of Arizona and each Arizona Indian tribe may submit recommendations to the governor. There shall be no more than one representative from each Arizona Indian tribe and shall be nominated by his tribal governing body. The governor shall make appointments from the following areas:

  • Five tribal members who represent health care agencies. At least one of the appointees shall have experience in serving elderly or physically disabled clients;
  • Five tribal members who represent social service agencies. At least one of the appointees shall have experience in serving elderly or physically disabled clients;
  • Five tribal members who represent agencies serving the developmentally disabled;
  • Two tribal members who represent tribal organizations or metropolitan Indian centers; and
  • Three tribal members serving at large.
